Breast Augmentation

Breast augmentation is the process of increasing the size, shape, or fullness of the breast by placing a silicone or saline implant. Breast augmentation is one of the most popular procedures performed around the world. Although most often performed in younger women, older patients may also benefit from breast implants by helping to fill excess skin and improve the appearance of breasts that have began to sag due to age, pregnancy, or weight gain.  This sometimes will be done in conjunction with a breast lift procedure (mastopexy) described below.  The feel and appearance of the Various types of implants are available with a unique feel and appearance, and this is available for you to explore during your appointment. Dr. Garfein has also helped pioneer the use of 3D photography in breast surgery. This technology is available during your consultation, and allows for patients to view themselves in 3D and place implants into their ‘virtual’ body for viewing.

Incisions used for placement of an implant are most commonly under the breast or around the areola.  Implants are typically placed underneath the chest (pectoralis) muscles in order to prevent them from moving from the correct position and achieve a more natural appearance.  Breast augmentation is typically performed on an outpatient basis in one hour.
